Mics off

Amidst all the smoke and gunfire, the squad scrambling to take down the enemy had to rely on and cover each other. Sometimes they wouldn't even know each other or wouldn't even say a word to the other, yet, when they come together they are brothers in arms.

This may seem like an excerpt from a war novel or war film script, but I was talking about none other than the Call of Duty mobile game. This also applies for other similar games but this one I've played and had some fun in.

In a world where vocal communication is key to coordination and usually happens between known parties, There is automatic coordination even when the microphone is switched off. People from different languages and regions come together and be a team for some time and scoot off possibly to never meet again, yet, they learn how to coordinate, support and heave along the squad they are in with the mics off.

It takes some getting used to, figuring out the knick-knacks and getting shot down time and again, but the amazing phenomenon of team work and understanding comes into play right off the bat. I leave my mic switched off as most of the games' actions and outcomes are non verbal. There is this understanding that squad mates have, for instance if some one gets on a vehicle it is to be understood that the squad is going to move, on top of this there are special pointers like pointing out supplies or enemies in the game to be made use of.

Unlike platforms that make people come together like most social media by facilitating communication, my random matchings with squads with my mic off was more endearing. There is the element of simple acknowledging inside this realm when teaming up. There are skills involved in winning but nothing beats the sheer acknowledgement we show each other without uttering a word, running around the map, communicating only through visuals.

Which has me wondering why on earth don't people do similar things in real life...no I don't mean the shooting...but the team work, understanding and coordination to support or defend virtually certainly find origin in real life wouldn't it?
